Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery Directorate
The Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery Directorate works to minimize the impact of disasters by promoting preparedness, prevention, and resilience-building initiatives across the Somali Region. The directorate conducts risk assessments, vulnerability analysis, and hazard mapping to better understand the factors that increase community exposure to disasters. Based on these assessments, it supports the development and implementation of disaster risk reduction strategies at regional, zonal, and district levels. The directorate also coordinates recovery and rehabilitation programs following disasters, helping affected communities restore livelihoods, rebuild infrastructure, and regain social and economic stability. By integrating disaster risk management into development planning and strengthening institutional capacity, the directorate contributes to long-term resilience and sustainable development while ensuring that communities are better prepared to cope with future shocks.
