Power and Duties of the Bureau
The Disaster Risk Management Bureau of the Somali Regional State is responsible for implementing policies, strategies, and programs related to disaster risk management and humanitarian response across the region. The bureau monitors disaster risks and collects early warning information from various sectors and administrative levels in order to provide timely alerts that support preparedness and response measures. It analyzes disaster risk information and disseminates reports to relevant stakeholders to strengthen coordinated decision-making and improve emergency preparedness.
The bureau also coordinates emergency response operations during disasters and ensures the effective delivery of humanitarian assistance to affected communities. This includes facilitating the provision of food and non-food assistance, supporting emergency logistics coordination, and ensuring that vulnerable populations receive timely and appropriate support during crises. Through strong collaboration with government institutions, humanitarian partners, development organizations, and local communities, the bureau works to strengthen disaster preparedness and response mechanisms across the region.
In addition, the bureau plays an important role in promoting disaster risk reduction and resilience-building initiatives aimed at reducing vulnerability to disasters. It supports capacity-building programs, promotes risk-informed development planning, and encourages community participation in disaster risk management activities. The bureau also works to improve coordination among sectors, strengthen institutional capacity, and enhance the ability of communities to anticipate, cope with, and recover from disasters while protecting lives, livelihoods, and sustainable development across the Somali Regional State.
