Food Security & Nutrition Directorate

The Food Security and Nutrition Directorate works to address food insecurity and malnutrition challenges affecting vulnerable communities across the Somali Regional State. The directorate was established following the endorsement of the National Food and Nutrition Policy and Strategy to strengthen regional capacity in managing food and nutrition emergencies caused by natural and human-induced disasters. It focuses on improving preparedness, response, and recovery mechanisms related to food security and nutrition. The directorate conducts food security assessments, monitors nutrition conditions, and coordinates emergency food and nutrition assistance in collaboration with government institutions, humanitarian partners, and development organizations. Special attention is given to vulnerable groups, including internally displaced persons and communities affected by disasters. By promoting coordinated multi-sectoral interventions, strengthening resilience, and supporting sustainable recovery, the directorate contributes to protecting livelihoods and improving the food and nutrition status of communities across the region.
