Message from H.E. Ahmed Yassin Sheikh Ibrahim
Head of the Disaster Risk Management Bureau
Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of communities across the Somali Regional State requires continuous awareness, preparedness, and cooperation among institutions, partners, and communities. The Disaster Risk Management Bureau works to strengthen systems that help communities understand potential hazards and improve their preparedness to face risks that may affect lives and livelihoods.
Our region is exposed to different types of hazards, including droughts, floods, conflicts, and other emergencies that can affect pastoral and agro-pastoral communities. These realities make it important to promote awareness and strengthen preparedness measures that help communities reduce vulnerabilities and respond more effectively when challenges arise.
One of the key priorities of the bureau is supporting the development of reliable information systems and early warning mechanisms. These systems help provide timely information that supports planning, preparedness, and coordination among institutions responsible for disaster risk management. Access to timely and reliable information is essential for improving preparedness and strengthening resilience.
The bureau also works closely with regional institutions, humanitarian partners, and community structures to support disaster risk reduction initiatives. Cooperation and coordination between institutions help ensure that information is shared effectively and that preparedness and response activities are carried out in a responsible and organized manner.
Communities themselves also play an important role in disaster risk management. Local knowledge, community participation, and responsible use of resources contribute significantly to reducing risks and strengthening resilience. When communities are informed and engaged, they are better able to anticipate potential challenges and take appropriate actions.
The Disaster Risk Management Bureau remains committed to strengthening preparedness, improving coordination, and promoting awareness that contributes to safer and more resilient communities across the Somali Regional State.
"Preparing today for a safer tomorrow - your trusted partner in disaster risk management"
